After deciding to embark on my learning journey, I wanted to document my journey on social media in the hope that others would be inspired to get outside and maybe embark on their own learning journey.
I wanted to create a name that was not only linked to the woods but was somehow linked to me. A favourite book of mine as a child was ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl and from that book grew a love of foxes, especially baby ones.
Foxes are social animals and typically live in small family groups but some are known to be solitary. A Red Fox can adapt well to human environments. I looked into the depictions of foxes in folklore. According to Wikipedia “In asian folklore, foxes are depicted as a familiar spirit possessed of magic powers. Similar to western folklore, foxes are depicted as mischievous, usually tricking other people with the ability to disguise as an attractive female human. However, there are other depictions of foxes as a mystical, sacred creature, that can either bring wonder or ruin”. I decided that I wanted to use the female fox because of their instinct to nurture as I too possess a natural nurturing nature and so ‘Vixen Bushcraft’ seemed to be a perfect fit.
I then set to creating a Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram account under the name of Vixen Bushcraft and I have since set up a Youtube channel where I intend on filming some of my journey along the way.
